We rebuild tropical fisheries with coastal communities

Blue Ventures develops locally-led approaches to marine management that benefit people and nature alike. By listening and responding to basic needs, we design our models to catalyse and sustain marine conservation, unlocking the potential of coastal communities to manage their resources. We work in places where the ocean is vital to local cultures and economies, and are committed to advancing the rights of small-scale fishers throughout the coastal tropics.

Summary Job Description

Blue Ventures is largely funded by grants from institutions and foundations and the work involved in managing these has expanded considerably over the last couple of years. As a result, we are seeking a Writing Officer to be a part of the UK conservation team to support the production of high-quality reports to donors by leading, writing and editing a range of regular reports to donors.

This is an exciting role which will involve working closely with colleagues at field sites, in particular, Madagascar, Belize, Timor-Leste and Indonesia. Primary responsibilities involve gathering the relevant information on activity progress from field-based colleagues, interpret it and write high-quality reports for a broad range of donors from family foundations to large institutions. This will give the candidate exposure to, and a broad understanding of, all of our work, making this a great stepping stone to other roles.

Producing high-quality reports is key to communicating progress to donors and ensuring their ongoing support. We are therefore looking for someone whose strengths are attention to detail, flair and passion for writing, the ability to assimilate and interpret high volumes of information and excellent written and oral communication skills. The successful candidate will be a motivated, proactive and highly organised individual, with an excellent knowledge of donor reporting.

We are looking for an individual who is open to new ideas and embraces innovation and who can demonstrate experience of writing for a range of audiences and building effective working relationships. Assessment of applications will include candidates’ alignment with BV’s core values and mission to support human rights-based approaches to marine conservation and fisheries management.
