World Land Trust (WLT) is a major UK charity which promotes the conservation, protection & improvement of the natural environment throughout the world.  The Trust’s digital and printed communications are vital for keeping in touch with donors and engaging new support and awareness of our work.  The Writer/Editor will assist in the writing, editing and reviewing of all digital and published materials as well as assisting with corporate communications, internal reports and presentations, along with other functions related to a wildlife conservation charity.

 Job Role

The Writer/Editor will be responsible for writing and editing new and existing materials relating to the Trust’s activities for the website, print publication, presentations and other communications, and for maximising the potential for engaging new support through these communications.  There will also be line management responsibilities for Editorial Assistant.

 The main responsibilities will include:

  • Writing, editing and reading information for web content, and keeping web pages up to day;
  • Managing monthly email newsletter (eBulletin).
  • Contributing to social media activities.
  • Writing copy for a variety of printed publications and materials.
  • Writing Press Releases and carrying out associated press activities .

Person specification

Qualifications

  • Preferably degree in journalism with a minimum of two years writing/editorial experience.
  • Proven ability to write for a variety of different audiences, ideally including some scientific, or research based writing as well as more general communications.
  • Good IT skills and comfortable with learning new software.
  • Excellent proof-reading and communications skills in oral and written English.
  • A good understanding of the different requirements of online and print communications.

 The successful candidate will be

  • A creative thinker, but able to demonstrate excellent attention to detail.
  • Capable at multi-tasking, and able to work under pressure to tight deadlines.
  • A team player, but confident at working under own initiative.
  • Interested in environmental issues and have some knowledge of the environmental sector.

This is a full-time post based in World Land Trust’s headquarters in Halesworth, Suffolk.
