The Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre is a very busy educational visitor centre based on the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, welcoming over 100,000 visitors a year. We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated geoscientist who will support the existing team to deliver a wide range of public events and educational sessions for all ages and abilities.
Duties will include assisting the Senior Warden in the day to day running of the Centre, leading public and school sessions. In addition to this you will assist in operating the West Dorset Fossil Collecting Code, maintain the Centre’s website and be responsible for the charity’s press and publicity.
You will need to have experience of working in a busy public facing educational facility and be an excellent communicator. You will have experience of maintaining websites and a great understanding of the palaeontology of the Dorset Coast. As part of a small team the ability to prioritise tasks and be adaptable is essential. A good geoscience degree (geology, geomorphology or palaeontology) is essential for this role.
The Centre is open all year round and we run a comprehensive programme of events and activities throughout the year with the support of a dedicated volunteer team.
The role is initially a 12-month position with scope to extend the post in the future.
