Are you ready to make your mark on the world of volunteer management supporting great people doing vital conservation work across Somerset?  Do you want to help a local charity develop its volunteering to supports its future strategy? Do you want to spread the word about Somerset’s wonderful wildlife and glorious landscapes and why we need to protect them now and in the future?

Somerset Wildlife Trust is looking for a self-motivated, organised and committed individual to get fully immersed in a role that will develop our volunteering across all departments of the Trust. You will coordinate and help manage our various volunteers and volunteer groups, who form a core part of the Trust, as well as champion volunteer work including practical conservation work, wildlife monitoring and recording, and in our office and at events.

The successful candidate will be supporting our existing volunteer groups and volunteers, revitalising our volunteer strategy, while creating new and exciting volunteer opportunities and activities.  You will be working closely with existing staff and departments to take volunteering to a new level within the Trust and put it at the heart of our charity’s work. You will be closely involved with recruiting new volunteers through a variety of mediums and lead the development of improved processes, communications and data management in relation to volunteering.

One key element to working with our amazing volunteers will be an element of occasional evening and weekend working for which we operate a time off in lieu policy.  You will be filling a Nominated Safeguarding position within the Trust for which training will be provided.

This is an exciting time to join Somerset Wildlife Trust as we are developing our future strategy under the leadership of a new Chief Executive. Ideally you will have a proven track record in volunteer management, an interest in Somerset wildlife and the environment, be self-motivated and be a real people-person with a desire to develop volunteering within the Trust.

Requirements

You'll have:

  • Experience of working with and managing volunteers
  • Lots of energy, dedication and willingness to work hard
  • High level of self-motivation and a proactive attitude
  • You'll need to be very well organised and disciplined with great time management skills
  • A positive nature with good initiative and drive
  • Excellent communications skills with an ability to build relationships
  • Punctual, reliable and able to work to deadlines
  • You'll love getting to know different groups of people from all over the organisation
