The Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (CEH), part of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), is the UK’s Centre of Excellence for research in terrestrial and freshwater environmental sciences (www.ceh.ac.uk). Research is carried out by 350 scientists at four sites in the UK.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed person to join the CEH Business Development team based at the headquarters of CEH at Wallingford.  Investment in CEH’s business development activities is sought to provide greater material support on research tender preparation to improve the quality and outcomes of CEH proposals and enable improved marketing capability, maintaining existing, and securing new, customer relationships.  We are now looking for a Tender Support Executive to support this ongoing initiative.

Main Duties:

  • Support to the preparation of Expression of Interest, Pre-Qualification Questionnaires, tenders and grant proposals
  • Supporting PQQ/tender leads, Business Development Managers and Principal Investigators, coordinating the bid process for competitive tenders to include:
    • Proof reading tenders to ensure compliance and excellence
    • Ensuring timely submission of tenders including responsibility for electronic submission where required
    • Maintain, update and ensure the quality of customer and project descriptors
    • Creation and maintenance of tender support documentation
    • Review on-line tender/PQQ notification sites and identify and promote relevant opportunities
    • Secure feedback from successful and unsuccessful tenders for analysis, business planning and continual improvement
    • Supporting and delivering training for researchers on tender writing

Skills and Qualifications needed:

  • A good degree in an appropriate subject or equivalent professional experience
  • Able to work independently and manage own time effectively
  • Effective IT skills, being proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)
  • Able to manage a changing workload of long and short terms tasks
  • Recent and relevant, demonstrable ability in bid/tender production in a commercial or research intensive environment
  • Production of tender documents and associated materials for presentation to clients
  • Ability to prepare and proof read to produce high quality written material, including that containing detailed technical language
  • Excellent organisational skills and exceptional attention to detail
  • Experience of identifying, gathering and collating information from internal and external stakeholders alike
  • Good knowledge of relevant tender development systems
