Owing to our continued success, we are looking to recruit a number of senior staff to grow our team in general, and seeking a Technical Director and/or a Principal Ecologist with proven consultancy experience particularly to work within our Environment team based in Warrington or London. Whilst Warrington is our main focus, we will also consider the right candidates for Technical Director and/or Principal Ecologist roles in our London, Cardiff and Bristol offices.

Our Energy & Environment Team:

Our environmental practice in the UK comprises over 250 staff and we are presently working on some of the largest civil engineering infrastructure, urban regeneration and transport projects in the UK. We cover a number of sub-disciplines including ecology, landscape architecture, air quality, acoustics, sustainability and geosciences.

Duties & Responsibilities:

This is an exciting opportunity to grow, develop and lead a team or to work closely with the Team Leader. You will be accountable for the quality control, coordination and completion of tasks and projects within the Business Unit or project team.  Operating in an extremely diverse marketplace, you will gain experience that will consolidate your skills and expand your technical knowledge.

You will have a leading and management role in recruitment and team personal and professional development in addition to delivering projects to time, budgetary and QHSE targets, managing client relationships so that delivery exceeds client expectations, and leading your colleagues by example.

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
  • Manage projects (particularly budgets and cashflow), attend meetings, provide advice to clients and manage bid production
  • Have responsibility for technical quality / approval of project deliverables
  • Undertake ecological surveys, oversee/undertake the analysis of results of field surveys, and manage the production of reports, impact assessments, biodiversity strategies and other documents
  • Provide advice on ecological issues, both at an in-depth level within own area of expertise but also on a broad range of issues
  • Compile licence applications, including developing mitigation and monitoring
  • Undertake/supervise mitigation and monitoring of licensed work and liaise with statutory authorities 
  • Undertake performance management of assigned team members, and provide training at staff meetings and to smaller groups of staff
  • Design research projects and contribute to the development of best practice with respect to training and survey standards, as appropriate
  • Manage budgets and the production of bids
Role Requirements:

Academic Qualifications:
  • A relevant degree, ideally with a further education qualification 
  • Be a full member of CIEEM
  • Ideally be a Chartered Environmentalist and/or Ecologist
  • Membership of other ecological and professional bodies desirable 
Essential Experience:
  • Detailed knowledge of ecological principles, relevant wildlife legislation and ecological impact assessment (EcIA)
  • In-depth knowledge of particular plant and/or animal groups and appropriate field survey skills
  • Excellent commercial and project management skills
  • Proven track record in writing ecological appraisals, EcIAs and Ecology Chapters for Environmental Statements
  • Ability to lead and grow a team  
  • Ideally hold Survey and/or Development Licences
