You will contribute to making us a leader in zoo sustainability, as an integral part of our strategic plan to put sustainability at the heart of our operations.

We are looking for a dynamic and experienced individual to join our team with broad knowledge, experience and/or understanding of measuring emissions/resource use/ knowledge of environmental mitigation. Experience in relevant research methods (e.g., environmental sustainability data modelling) and application of those methods is desirable. Your role will be crucial in helping us complete our mission of saving wildlife together, becoming a beacon of sustainability, and delivering excellent Higher Education programmes.

If you are passionate about sustainability, have the determination to drive forward change, combined with excellent project management and communication skills, we want to hear from you.

Benefits of working for Bristol Zoological Society

The main aim of your project work is real-world impact in sustainability. Thus, you will be implementing solutions to sustainability critical to the Society and assessing the impact of those solutions.

  • An important aspect will also be teaching and supervision of undergraduate and post-graduate students, inspiring them to make a real difference for wildlife and people.
  • You will be working for one of the UK’s leading zoo and conservation charities, and joining a new Sustainability programme to bring BZS into line with our target of being carbon neutral by 2035.
  • You will join a team with a diverse set of skills and work collaboratively across the department and the Society as a whole. You will be working with the other lead of the Sustainability Programme to plan/design/implement the Sustainability Strategy in collaboration with our maintenance, facilities, animal and vet departments.
  • You may be supported to participate in relevant conferences, working groups, committees etc. as most relevant to your role in the Society and the Sustainability programme of the Society (this is at the discretion of the Head of Department and in line with the approved budget).
  • You will have the name and reputation of Bristol Zoological Society behind you when applying for relevant funding for the Society Sustainability Programme.
  • You will be joining a zoological society and conservation charity with a new vision, to become an example of a modern zoo with conservation and sustainability at its heart
