About the role 

The role will provide advice, guidance, and evidence to support decision-making across the wider University to help achieve the University’s strategic goals around environmental sustainability and to be the University’s main technical advisor in achieving Carbon Net Zero campuses by 2030. As a key member of the Estates Projects Team, the role will provide technical and environmental input into a wide variety of projects and initiatives, working with both in-house teams and external consultants.

The role demands a good understanding of engineering and sustainability issues in relation to the latest technologies in design, renewable energy, selection of materials and embedded carbon. The role will also provide technical advice on sustainability issues to the wider team on other related Estates matters including soft FM issues, building maintenance, energy usage, recycling, and BEM systems. The postholder will also work with colleagues from the Procurement Team to support Schools and Services to become more aware and self-reliant in terms of making good decisions around environmental sustainability by, where appropriate, providing the evidence base, training, and support for key decisions. 

The successful candidate will have a passion for sustainability and the environment and will be qualified to degree level or equivalent in an appropriate and relevant discipline (engineering or construction), preferably with an additional qualification in sustainable engineering or sustainable construction.

The successful applicant will have extensive experience and knowledge of all aspects of sustainable engineering other sustainability issues will be an effective team worker with excellent communication skills.
