Description

The MSC’s vision is for the world’s oceans to be teeming with life, and seafood supplies safeguarded for this and future generations.  Through our internationally-recognised certification and ecolabeling programme well-managed sustainable fisheries are recognised and rewarded in the market place, through the leadership of our partners.  Critically, other fisheries are incentivised to improve their performance to meet the growing demand for certified sustainable and traceable seafood choice.   Over 400 fisheries around the world, representing almost 16% of the annual global marine catch, are now engaged in the MSC programme and over 1200 documented improvements to the way our oceans are being fished have been recorded.  MSC certified and labelled seafood products are now available in over 100 countries.

Underpinning and integral to the MSC work and its ecolabel program are the standards which it sets and maintains: the Fishery Standard and the Chain of Custody Standard.  The credibility of the standards is critical to the MSC’s success, and therefore the MSC Chain of Custody Standard has been developed as a segregated supply chain standard in line with international best practice for traceability.

Reporting to the Chief Science & Standards Officer, and representing the MSC at the highest level internationally, the Supply Chain Standard Director plays a critical role within the organisation, with responsibility for the development and effective implementation of credible supply chain certification for MSC products across a wide range of supply chains and product types.

An experienced leader and manager, the Supply Chain Standard Director will be expected to make decisions in a rapidly changing environment.  As part of the Corporate Strategy Group, the post holder will also be responsible for contributing to the delivery of the vision and mission of the MSC more broadly and to the collective management and strategic development of the organisation.

The successful candidate will bring significant senior level experience in seafood, grocery, or food service with substantial knowledge of the structure of seafood supply chains and mechanisms to provide assurance around traceability of product within them.  Ideally, they will have direct experience working with a standard-setting or eco-labelling organisation, or other relevant auditing experience.  Candidates will be excellent communicators, bringing a deep understanding of traceability, risk, the international legal and policy context in which MSC operates, and safety and quality systems.  You must be able to demonstrate your empathy and interest in MSC’s mission and objectives.
