Director of Global Programmes

SPANA – The Society for the Protection of Animals Abroad is the global charity for working animals in low-income countries. Since 1923, we have supported the welfare of working animals, including donkeys, horses, camels and elephants, in communities that depend on working animals for water, transport, agriculture and their very survival. Today, we support working animals across approximately 20 countries, through a series of global projects and partnerships.

We are currently seeking a Director of Global Programmes who will lead on the strategic development, technical quality and delivery of SPANA’s global work to pursue the maximum, sustainable impact for working animals ensuring we achieve a lasting transformation in their welfare. Your role will involve ensuring SPANA integrates scientific and technical expertise and policy advice within a One Health framework. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will work with your colleagues to lead the organisation in line with our strategy and our agreed values and behaviours.

DRR & Emergencies Programme Manager

SPANA – The Society for the Protection of Animals Abroad is the global charity for working animals in low-income countries. Today, we support working animals across 26 countries, through a series of global projects and partnerships.

Increasingly, working animals and their communities need strategic support to be resilient in the face of increasingly complex, cyclical, and impactful crises whilst also reducing and mitigating against everyday risks. SPANA’s work aims to reduce risk, build resilience, and respond to emergencies, operating at both the development and humanitarian nexus and the One Health nexus. As such, SPANA aims to increasingly embed resilience approaches into its programmes, ensuring both continuity in the face of regular challenges, and enhancing preparedness ahead of both rapid and slow onset emergencies. When emergencies strike, SPANA also helps working animals with immediate response and recovery activities.

We are seeking to recruit a Disaster, Risk, and Resilience (DRR) and Emergencies Programme Manager to work within our Global Programmes department to develop a comprehensive DRR strategy to guide all our work and will also manage our emergencies programme.

Technical Advisor: SBCC for education - Maternity Cover

Today, we support working animals across 26 countries, through a series of global projects and partnerships.

We are currently seeking an Education Programme Advisor to join us for a 12-month maternity cover, taking on a role that entails overseeing various components of our Education Programme. Our Education Programme aims to support anyone involved with working animals in areas of high need – whether that’s a child who look after their family’s donkey, a young person who uses a horse for their work, or a vet who looks after the community’s camels. Our diverse, responsive, and targeted education and behaviour change activities develop each person’s essential knowledge, attitudes, and skills required to support an improved quality of life for their animals.

Global Resources Team Coordinator

We are currently seeking a Global Resources Team Coordinator who will be responsible for providing strong, effective, and efficient administrative support within the Global Resources area. The role is critical in ensuring operations within global resources run smoothly and efficiently. Responsibilities include providing general administrative support to different teams within Global Resources, manage supply of office resources and equipment, arrange travel, managing relationships with key suppliers, coordinating schedules and meetings and supporting HR administrative duties.
