Description

We’re looking for a Senior Project Officer to work part time, 4 days a week to lead the delivery of this exciting new project, which will make a difference to multiple species, including the iconic Willow Tit, across a wide geographic area.

Wet Willow Wildlife is a new project in which Lancashire Wildlife Trust and The Conservation Volunteers will be working together to:

  • Boost survival of wet willow species such as willow tit through creation of habitat corridors at a landscape scale,
  • Involve people and improve skills through surveying and habitat conservation volunteering opportunities and
  • Run a community engagement programme to connect more people with their local nature.

This project is funded by the Government's Species Survival Fund. The fund was developed by Defra and its Arm's-Length Bodies. It is being delivered by The National Lottery Heritage Fund in partnership with Natural England and the Environment Agency.

The Species Survival Fund will help halt and reverse the decline in species abundance by preserving vital habitats. Wet Willow Wildlife aims to improve the network of wet willow habitat to facilitate the survival and aid the abundance of its many associated species, such as the red-listed Willow Tit. This will be done by undertaking targeted habitat creation, restoration and connecting works across the landscape of Greater Manchester and north- west Cheshire, boosting the connectivity of the wider habitat mosaic by creating four enhanced habitat corridors in Bolton, the Chat Moss area, Trafford and the Mersey Gateway area.

Involving people through volunteer opportunities is a major focus of the project. Surveying through Citizen Science approaches provides us with data to inform this project and future work. Volunteers will also get the chance to participate in skills training and creating habitat.  Running alongside the habitat delivery will be a wide-reaching community programme to encourage people to take part and become more engaged with their local wildlife.

We’re looking for someone with drive and passion who can take the lead on this project, supporting the dedicated project team and wider stakeholders and undertaking management and governance aspects.

Ideally, the successful candidate will have experience of working on grant-funded projects, and your organisational and communications skills will help achieve a successful outcome.

If you feel this is the role for you then we look forward to hearing from you.
