Hyder Cresswell, an operating division of Arcadis, provides ecological advice and services to the planning, construction and development industry, and to statutory and non-statutory organisations. Our work encompasses all disciplines of ecology, nature conservation and biodiversity.
We have approaching 20 years of experience undertaking ecological surveys and assessments, as well as the provision of advice on soil, land use, hydrological and sustainable drainage issues, arboriculture and cultural heritage. During this time, we have undertaken nearly 2000 projects covering a wide range of environmental disciplines throughout the UK, in Europe and beyond, for public and private clients.
Presently, we are engaged on a variety of large and interesting projects, including Highway and Rail Schemes, Power Stations, Electrical and Gas Infrastructure, and Residential Developments, and are working for a wide selection of clients based throughout the UK, including EDF Energy, National Grid, the Environment Agency, Transport for London, Network Rail, Wrap, The Canals and Rivers Trust and Housing Associations.
Requirements:
Having secured some major schemes, we are seeking to recruit a number of high calibre Senior Ecologists, to be based across our offices, but primarily in Warrington, Stroud, Cardiff, Bristol and/or London. You will need to have gained proven consultancy experience working on a broad spectrum of ecology schemes for construction and development projects.
To be considered for a role we are seeking candidates with the following credentials.
Minimum Academic Qualifications:
- You will hold a relevant Degree
- Full member of CIEEM
Essential Experience:
- Detailed knowledge of ecological principles, relevant wildlife legislation and ecological impact assessment
- In-depth knowledge of particular plant or animal groups and appropriate field survey skills
- Excellent commercial and project management skills
- Ability to lead a survey team
- Ideally hold Survey and/or Development Licences
Duties & Responsibilities:

You will be responsible for managing delivery of the ecological elements of projects to meet time, quality, budgetary and health and safety targets, managing the client relationship so that delivery meets or exceeds expectations. You will take a key role with the project team, providing both direction and technical advice and leading by example.

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
- Project Management - all elements from co-ordination of field surveys to managing budgets and risk, client liaison and consultations with statutory and non-statutory consultees
- Desk studies - reviewing and assessing existing ecological information
- Ecological field surveys and training of junior staff
- Research projects, review of documentation, statistical analysis
- Assessment of the impacts of proposed developments, developing recommendations for the mitigation of ecological impacts and devising monitoring schemes
- Practical habitat creation work or other site supervision tasks
- Production of survey reports, Environmental Statement chapters, licence applications and other documents
- Attendance at meetings and providing advice to clients
- General administrative / management tasks relating to project quality, environmental issues, and health and safety (including risk assessment), and marketing
