Description

At Natural England, we advise the UK Government on the natural environment. We’re here to make sure people and nature can thrive. From advising farmers on sustainable land management, to gathering and analysing environmental data, and promoting health and wellbeing through the great outdoors, we love what we do. Join us and you’ll be part of an inclusive, motivated and ambitious team, committed to achieving results for our environment, for everyone.

Our work is broad-ranging and we have diverse opportunities for specialists who are ready to apply their expertise in an advisory capacity. As a Senior Adviser, you’ll work with partners such as farmers and landowners to progress sustainable development and nature recovery in England. It’s an opportunity to use your specialist expertise and leadership skills to make sure nature gets the best deal possible.  Activities might include the reform and improvement of planning and licensing, and the development of ambitious partnership plans for places with nature at their heart.

We’re looking for a solid track-record in the environmental sector that includes experience of applying legislative frameworks and providing specialist advice to a range of stakeholders, including policy-makers. Your expertise could be in a specific type of habitat, in land management, or in planning and environmental legislation.  What’s critical is that you are a highly skilled communicator, comfortable coaching and mentoring staff, as well as conveying complex – and sometimes challenging – messages to diverse audiences. You’ll be ready to take the lead on projects and to deliver results within a fast-paced environment.

We welcome and encourage applications from all communities and, wherever possible, we accommodate requests for both full and part-time hours and other flexible working patterns. Everyone at Natural England is supported to develop their skills and capabilities. You can also look forward to great benefits including a Civil Service pension.

If you’re inspired to protect and enhance England’s wildlife, and want to work for a leading science-led organisation, apply here.
