JNCC advises Government on UK and international nature conservation and is seeking an enthusiastic individual to take on the role of Seabed Survey Marine Support Officer within its Marine Directorate in Peterborough.
Marine Support Officers provide scientific administration and technical support to enable JNCC to provide marine conservation advice. Marine Support Officers also contribute to work that includes developing scientific advice for Government on the evolving Marine Protected Areas network, sustainable management of activities operating within the marine environment, and communicating and sharing knowledge with partners and stakeholders.
The position advertised would require someone with strong data management and GIS skills to support the storage and analysis of biological, physical and human activities data. The ideal candidate would be experienced at using software such as Access, Excel and R to manage and manipulate large data sets. Skills in managing spatial data using software such as R, ArcGIS or QGIS would also be valuable. A broad marine ecological knowledge would be preferred, but this is not essential.
