About the job

Applications are invited for this Fellowship, which is tenable for two years from January 2022.

This is a rare opportunity to join Winchester College and inspire its pupils as the Duncan Louis Stewart (DLS) Fellow in Natural History.  This position was established in 2016 in memory of Wykehamist Duncan Stewart, a passionate advocate of natural history, with the aim of promoting an interest in all aspects of natural history throughout the school. The Fellow will join the academic staff of the school and will work with the Biology, Geography, Art and other departments to engender in pupils a deeper knowledge of, and respect for, ecology, the environment and the natural world.  It is recognised that the impact of this post will be felt well into the future and beyond Winchester’s doors.

The DLS Fellow will make use of the school’s extensive collections and resources in order to promote knowledge among pupils of our place in the local environment of Hampshire and the greater world around us.  The Fellow will be responsible for organising and delivering a suite of activities including organising speakers to the Natural History Society and the school, developing relationships with local conservation groups, and arranging appropriate placements for interested pupils.

In 2022 the school will accept day pupils at 16+, both boys and girls; and girl boarders at 16+ from 2024.

Situated in the heart of Winchester, there are few schools in the world which can claim to be as historic, distinguished and beautiful as Winchester College.  This unparalleled combination attracts pupils from across the world, making Winchester a truly international and diverse community which celebrates every pupil’s individuality, passions and potential.

This is predominantly a term-time position with the expectation that the successful applicant will lead some planned study trips in the UK and abroad during school holidays. Exact hours of work will be discussed at interview.  If you have the passion and commitment to making a difference, we would like to hear from you.

This position includes a generous benefits package, including a pension auto-enrolment scheme.
