Saving Scotland’s Red Squirrels - Developing Community Action (SSRS-DCA) is a project to secure the long-term future of red squirrels in Scotland by building capacity among communities of volunteers and land managers, empowering them to take on some of the essential protection measures required to save the nation’s red squirrels.
We are now recruiting a monitoring and control officer to carry out grey squirrel monitoring and control to a targeted programme aimed at progressively reducing the grey squirrel population in Aberdeenshire, allowing red squirrels to continue to recolonise former range. This will be an interesting post with opportunities to develop innovative approaches to both our monitoring and our trapping methods. The monitoring and control officer will report to the locally based Conservation Officer.
Applicants should hold a Degree or vocational qualification in ecology/countryside management or related discipline. You will demonstrate experience in wildlife survey and monitoring, management of invasive non-native species and an understanding of scientific method. A commitment to wildlife conservation and the ability to keep accurate records are essential.
Experience of effective working with the public, private landowners, conservation agencies and volunteer groups along with good interpersonal skills are required, and a familiarity with Aberdeen is desirable.
Current driving licence essential.
