Description

This is an exciting new role and you will join us at a pivotal point as we launch our new Strategy and Ranger Service. As Head of our newly formed Service, you will be responsible for bringing two services together and leading a cultural shift towards new ways of working. You will lead strategic thinking on the National Park’s future and help shape delivery to make effective changes on the ground both for our own organisation and those of the Partnership.

Your role

Our challenges are significant but so are our opportunities:

  • Nature recovery, climate mitigation and adaptation through farming;
  • Climate action – achieving Net Zero;
  • Vibrant communities and a prosperous economy post Covid19;
  • Sustainable transport; and
  • A Lake District for Everyone.

…and we need you to help us make transformational change.

What it’s like to work here

The Lake District National Park is England’s largest World Heritage Site, inscribed due to its outstanding universal values of Identity, Inspiration and Conservation.

Our headquarters in Kendal is a hub for our Strategy and Ranger teams, but you’ll also find them at our distinctive area bases within the park.

You will be part of the Strategic Leadership Team, and also work closely with team leaders within the Strategy and Ranger Service to deliver the organisational strategy.

You will also lead LDNP’s role as a key member of the Lake District National Park Partnership, a unique model of collaborative working involving 25 organisations from the public, private, community and voluntary sectors. In 2006, the Partnership agreed a shared Vision for the National Park in 2030, representing a collective commitment to work together in the best interest of the National Park, its environment, communities, economy and visitors.

About you

You are an experienced leader who can bring together two services to form a new, agile and dynamic Strategy and Ranger Service to deliver our vision and strategy for the Lake District National Park. You will be confident and comfortable leading strategic development, liaising closely with our Members, Partners and working as part of our Strategic Leadership Team. Your leadership style will be inclusive and you will inspire teams to move forward towards new ways of working. You will maximise opportunities for team working both within our organisation and across the Partnership.

We’re happy to talk about flexible working – let us know if you want to find out more.
