Description  

The UK Green Building Council is a charity and membership organisation which campaigns for a sustainable built environment. The core team of 20 staff works to influence government and policy, inspire best practice and leadership, and impact upon members' sustainability performance.

 

Working closely with its members, who span the entire property and construction industry, UK-GBC’s small but influential team advocates a progressive message to Government on green building policies and has had a real impact on issues such as zero carbon new build, retrofit and operational energy measurement and reporting. The organisation also has a strong presence in both the building trade and specialist environmental press, as well as a growing profile within the mainstream national media.

 

We are looking for a Research and Communications Intern to help expand our capacity across key areas of work. The internship is ideally suited to an individual looking to pursue a career in sustainable development, with a keen interest in gaining experience of either a business and/or NGO context. Reporting to the Communications and Campaigns Officer but providing support across different team members, the intern will support UK-GBC’s wide ranging policy work, industry best practice, and broader communications activities.

 

Duties

-              Researching and drafting written material such as press releases, news stories, blogs and policy updates

-              Assisting the press officer in responding to media enquires

-              Researching industry best practice, in particular business performance across relevant topics

-              Supporting UK-GBC’s social media activity and contributing to the social media strategy

-              Conducting research for media pitches, reports and other areas

-              Updating records of UK-GBC’s political contacts and public affairs activities

 

The intern will be required to support the broader work of UK-GBC, and to be flexible as to how their time will be allocated.

 

The candidate

 

-              A graduate or current university student, with strong research and analytical skills

-              Passionate about sustainability and environmental protection

-              Some knowledge or understanding of the built environment would be greatly beneficial

-              An excellent written and verbal communicator

-              Some PR or media experience, and experienced in social media

-              Experienced in the use of IT software (Microsoft Office)

-              Politically aware, with an interest in UK politics and environmental policy

-              A dedicated individual with a desire to affect change

Location: London

Duration: Full time for 3 months, or part time duration TBC
