Description  

We are looking for a Project Officer to lead the Saving Scotland’s Red Squirrels North East project team.


The successful candidate will oversee work to protect red squirrel populations in rural Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City co-ordinating an established programme of grey squirrel control. Working in partnership with land managers and householders, Forest Enterprise Scotland and Aberdeen City Council, the Project Officer will manage the activities of the staff team and engage with the public to engender support for the project.   He/she will promote the project to stakeholders and engage with the local and national media.  


The Project Officer will organise and support volunteer-delivered surveys to monitor red and grey squirrels, collate data for the project evaluation and devise innovative solutions for long-term delivery of a minimum viable monitoring and rapid response mechanism to detect and control resurgent grey squirrels.


Applicants will hold a degree or equivalent vocational qualification in countryside management or related discipline, and demonstrate species conservation management experience. Experience of working with the public, private landowners, conservation agencies and volunteer groups along with excellent interpersonal, presentation and organisational skills are also essential.


Some working in off-road locations in challenging environments required. A current driving licence is essential.
