Title: Project Officer, South Scotland - Saving Scotland's Red Squirrels
Status: Fixed Term, until 31 March 2016 with the strong possibility of an extension/35 hours per week
Salary: £21k - £24k per annum
Location: Lindean Mill, near Galashiels

The successful candidate will lead on the implementation in the Scottish Borders of the Saving Scotland’s Red Squirrels (SSRS) Phase 3 project. Here, they will develop landowner and volunteer engagement to protect red squirrels in priority landscapes from replacement by grey squirrels and from squirrelpox disease.
She/he will collect and collate the many streams of data generated by project work in the Scottish Borders and organise and support the survey scheme to monitor red and grey squirrel distributions across the region.
Applicants should hold a degree in in ecology, biology, geography, countryside management or related discipline, be highly motivated and experienced in recruiting, inspiring, training and supporting volunteer groups and individuals to undertake active conservation work and in engaging the wider public in conservation issues.
Experience of handling large and varied datasets, in carrying out standardised wildlife surveying, and with firm grasp of scientific method and report writing along with excellent organisational skills are essential.
Some working in remote locations in challenging environments required. A current driving licence is essential.
The position is expected to start as soon as possible and run until the 31 March 2016, with a strong possibility of extension (funding dependent)
