Description

To work, in collaboration with colleagues from a range of different backgrounds, on (one or more of) the following topics:

  • Update of the EU climate and energy policy architecture, including the EU Emissions Trading System, the EU Effort-Sharing Regulation and related legislative files linked to increasing EU 2030 climate ambition;
  • Accelerated scaling of renewable energy sources, particularly in the power sector, based on a deep understanding of implementation challenges related to the Clean Energy for All Europeans package and opportunities arising from a further update of the EU’s legal and financing framework pertaining to renewable energies;
  • The role of (green) hydrogen as critical enabler of deep decarbonisation in hard-to-abate sectors such as industry, related technology developments and infrastructure challenges;
  • The role of public and private finance in enabling accelerated climate action, in particular opportunities arising from the future EU budget, the EU’s Sustainable Finance Agenda or the EIB’s transition to Europe’s climate bank.

 

In the role as Project Manager, your responsibilities will include:

  • coordinating and managing specific research projects under the supervision of Agora Energiewende’s Senior Leadership;
  • systematically analysing energy systems, economics, and policies;
  • drafting of terms of reference for future research as well as writing of high-quality studies, memos, and policy papers in your respective area(s) of work in close collaboration with Agora colleagues based in Berlin and Brussels;
  • responsibility for managing specific research projects, including budget, monitoring, reporting and communication;
  • pro-actively contributing to building partnerships and working closely with network partners in Brussels and throughout Europe;
  • communicating results and insights from Agora Energiewende’s work, as well as knowledge about European and international energy transition policies, regulations and techno-economic developments;
  • speaking in conferences and workshops; facilitating dialogues;
  • hosting visitor groups from around the world.

We are looking for

  • a highly motivated individual with at least four years of relevant work experience in areas relating to the European Green Deal obtained in an international consulting role or in government, in think tanks, energy business, or civil society organisations;
  • a Master’s degree in economics, engineering or similar;
  • ability to conceptualise and independently guide complex analytic research and to write high quality documents;
  • an excellent understanding of power systems, energy economics, and climate and energy policies;
  • very good knowledge about European energy policy and energy system, and its main institutions and stakeholders;
  • strong networking skills and the ability to navigate in a complex environment of European institutions, professional associations, stakeholders, and media;
  • experience with working in international teams and networks;
  • a confident, calm, practical and entrepreneurial outlook, with openness to working on diverse challenges and topics;
  • dedication, reliability, perseverance, and a strong intellect; creativity and an ability to work independently as well as in a team; the ability to take initiative;
  • full command of the English language in reading and writing; active knowledge of German and other European languages is a plus.
