Description

Everything we do starts with our rainforest partners and you will sit in the heart of our rainforest projects team working alongside its manager and researcher. Your enthusiasm and hunger for knowledge will mean that in no time you’ll be an expert on all things Cool Earth and what we do to save rainforest and strengthen village life in Peru, the DR Congo and Papua New Guinea.

Making sure our community grants are spent fairly and effectively is a keystone in our work. You will be working to monitor, support and help manage our existing projects and helping develop new projects as Cool Earth expands. From helping make sure baseline surveys are conducted to assessing the impact of our work on everything from infant mortality to canopy quality, you’ll be a key part of each and every project.

You’ll also help make sure that every single one of our supporters knows what they are making possible by working with our communications team. The amount of information that our projects generate is immense and ensuring it is handed over to our Comms and Fundraising teams to work their magic is essential. This means you’ll have great communication and report writing skills work collaboratively at all times and delight in helping turn a fragment of news into a fundraising campaign.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the Project Manager to manage and progress Cool Earth’s live projects.
  • Ensuring that members of the project team follow administrative processes as necessary. In particular that all project records are logged accurately and the project budgets are kept up to date.
  • Regular communication with our project facilitators on the ground to help coordinate activities.
  • Help identify new project areas and local partners, and develop Cool Earth’s community-led model in new settings.
  • Seize opportunities to promote existing and develop new income streams to maximise our partner communities’ livelihoods.
  • Helping with project content and budgets for grant and trust applications.
  • Supporting the project manager in the compilation of technical and financial reports to donors (and any ad hoc special reports) to satisfy Cool Earth or donor requirements.

Your skills and experience

Essential

  • Be educated to degree level in a relevant subject or equivalent qualification or have relevant work experience.
  • A good grasp of climate change and rural development issues.
  • International conservation experience, particularly working with communities in developing world countries and working in remote, basic conditions.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft office, particularly in Excel.
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally to remote field areas.

Ideal (not essential)

  • A Masters degree or equivalent experience in Conservation or International Development or related field preferable.
  • Prior experience in coordinating conservation or development projects is desirable, particularly experience in managing budgets.
  • Spanish
  • Use of GIS software and mapping applications.
  • Photography and video editing.
