Description  

The role will involve creating awareness of the MSC’s fishery certification programme across a wide range of stakeholder groups in target fisheries in West and Southern Africa and building capacity of stakeholders to initiate and engage in MSC’s certification programme. It will also involve implementing activities and projects to ensure support and credibility for the MSC in the region and ultimately contributing to MSC overall aims and objectives for developing country fishery participation in its certification programme.

A specific component of this role is coordination of MSC staff engagement and interaction with tuna fisheries in the Indian Ocean and with the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC). In addition the role will involve oversight of work to engage with the commercial sector, encouraging uptake of MSC within the supply chain in the region, particularly in South Africa.

In addition to a comprehensive understanding of the diverse cultural contexts that developing world and small-scale fisheries operate within, the position holder will have field experience working with developing world    fisheries in the region and experience building relationships with key stakeholder groups in the region.
