Description

Support the waste permitting team and determine applications for waste environmental permits in accordance with recognised NRW policy, process and procedures.

Job Specific Responsibilities

  • Determine applications for waste permits by carrying out appropriate technical assessment in accordance with the Environmental Permitting Regulations and issue, vary or refuse permits to time and budget.
  • Undertake technical screening reports to inform on applications, to include ecological habitats assessments.
  • Develop and maintain effective customer relationships (internal and external) to ensure good understanding and the efficient delivery of fit for purpose permits and transition into compliance activities.
  • Produce appropriate records of decisions, actions and outcomes to justify and demonstrate that all legal and procedural requirements have been met.
  • Produce and provide regular accurate information to managers on progress, to adapt and ensure delivery of work to time and cost
  • Support and work collaboratively with the waste team and permitting service to ensure process efficiency and consistency of approach. 

Job Specific Requirements

  • Education to degree level or equivalent in a relevant scientific discipline or relevant vocational training in a related discipline (desirable)
  • Experience of engaging with external customers (desirable)
  • Working within a team (essential)
  • Delivering results to timescales (essential)
  • An understanding of the Environmental Permitting Regulations and how they relate to the waste permitting process (essential)

Due consideration has been given to the Welsh language requirements for the post and the existing skills within the team. Taking this into consideration the Welsh language skills required for the post are at

Level 1 - The ability to use basic Welsh conversational phrases (eg “bore da” – “good morning”) and to pronounce Welsh place names correctly

The post holder is responsible to: Relevant Permitting Team Leader

This post is responsible for:Determination of permit applications and delivery of results within a team environment.

Status

This is a fixed-term, pensionable full-time appointment of 37 hours a week for two years.

Salary

£21,748

This role will be subject to a forthcoming Job Evaluation exercise and this may result in a change to the salary.
