38 Degrees is one of the UK’s biggest campaigning communities, with millions of members. We’re united by a set of shared values; to defend fairness, protect rights, promote peace, preserve the planet and deepen democracy. We come together to decide which issues we campaign on, and the actions we take.

38 Degrees puts power into people’s hands. We’re helping to strengthen democracy by giving 38 Degrees members a new way to be involved in politics. We want to be more than just voters and ensure our voices are heard all of the time, not just once every five years. We are a community of people who want positive change.

38 Degrees members have contributed to some incredible, people-powered victories since we started working together to make change happen. We helped stop the government’s cuts to tax credits and most recently we helped make the government u-turn on forcing schools to become academies.

The 38 Degrees office team pride ourselves on nimble, focused campaigns that we’re more likely to put together in two hours than two weeks. That means our team is decisive, ambitious and happy to take risks. We’re characterised by our energy and enthusiasm; we’d rather aim high and see what happens, than play it safe. We’re passionate about putting 38 Degrees members first – we believe democracy works better when more people get involved.

About the role

We are seeking experienced organisers to join our team on a permanent basis to fill a variety of roles.

As an Organiser, you will support and help 38 Degrees members to build a sense of a 38 Degrees community and help members campaign on a range of issues – channelling the time and money of our members in the most effective ways possible. Most of our team are currently generalists but we warmly welcome specialists who want to get involved in a bit of everything!

  • Supporting members to organise offline and win campaigns locally and nationally
  • Support members directly to build local organising capacity and bring key groups into 38 Degrees campaigns
  • Create opportunities for affinity building between members as well as with 38 Degrees. Eg. Creating interesting events and opportunities to build a social bond between members. Film nights, book clubs, fundraiser parties etc.
  • Identify and action opportunities to broaden 38 Degrees appeal with new audiences and different demographics.
  • Identify and action potential partner opportunities to further these aims
  • Organise campaign actions and logistics, from media purchases to public petition deliveries.
  • Work with our team of campaigners to support the people who start petitions on our platform — providing strategic advice, conducting media outreach, and promoting them across the web and to our members via email.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community members in key issue areas to facilitate the use of our platform for social change.
  • Publish and edit online content. Consult and correspond with 38 Degrees members wherever possible.
  • Help to shape the overall strategic direction of the organisation, and at times support other tasks of the organisation including recruitment, team building, management, and special projects.
