The post holder will contribute to the delivery of Scottish Natural Heritage’s objectives within the Argyll and Outer Hebrides Unit. This post will principally deliver within Uist and Barra but will also support work in other parts of the Unit.
The post’s main areas of work will include the provision of advice on protected areas to local authorities, competent authorities and land managers. They will also carry out monitoring of protected areas; and advise on, and assess, agri-environment applications.
Applicants must have an HND or equivalent qualification in an environmental discipline or countryside management. Alternatively they should be able to demonstrate qualification by practical experience of environmental or countryside management.
You must also be familiar with the general functions and statutory duties of SNH, with a basic knowledge and experience of species ecology, habitat types and land use in Scotland. A basic knowledge of the local area and its natural history is a must with a valid driving licence or alternative means of accessing remote countryside sites. You must have excellent organisational and time management skills to effectively prioritise a high volume of reactive and proactive workload with good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in partnership fostering good relations. Finally you must be proficient in computer skills, both written and verbal including IT.
