Description

Plastic bags, microbeads, wet wipes, plastic bottles and straws are big news. Following the success of BBC1's Blue Planet II and Sky Ocean Rescue there's a growing understanding that we, as a nation, have to do something about the rising tide of plastic on our beaches and in our seas.

The Marine Conservation Society (MCS) is at the heart of this movement as the UK's leading marine charity and we are determined to create the actions that will make change happen for the future of our planet.  To do that, we need to grow the support that comes from our members and our existing supporter services and marketing team needs extra help – do you want to play a key part in the continuation of this important work with MCS?

This is an ideal role for someone with a keen eye for detail, and the ability to work accurately with our growing contacts database. Our data is very important, and with new legislation due any day now, you'll need to be able to follow a process to the letter and remain aware to noticing things that need further investigation and enquiry.

You won't be swimming in data all the time – you'll be responding to our member queries that come in by telephone and email, so a positive attitude and bags of patience when working with members of the public is a must for this role – customer service is your middle name!

As part of the wider Marketing team, you'll be managing the stock levels for our online shop items, sourcing new items for us to sell, contributing to the production of new marketing materials like flyers and banners and helping to ensure arrangements for talks and events are signed, sealed and delivered.

If this sounds like just the job for you – here's the nitty gritty:

  • Experience in handling confidential data – ideally you'll have used a Customer Relationship Management database before but we'll train you if not?
  • Have worked in a customer service role before – this might be over the phone or in person
  • Able to make clear and grammatically correct responses that answer public or professional enquiries that come in via letter or email
  • Have experience being committed to noticing the small stuff – accurate working with numbers and letters
Write a cover letter on how you'll meet the requirements of the job, attach your CV and send it to hr@mcsuk.org
