This post is a full-time fixed term contract for 15 months from October 2017, with potential for extension.
Based at Tyland Barn, Maidstone, Kent
The Job: The role of the Marine Conservation Officer is to enable the Trust to achieve effective engagement in marine planning issues, to protect the important marine biodiversity of the county of Kent and the region and to deliver biodiversity enhancement. The post will engage with the Marine Management Organisation on the development and implementation of regional marine plans. Working collaboratively with the Trust’s planning officers and marine officers, the post will engage with developers, statutory bodies and non-governmental organisations to inform and influence marine planning and individual marine and coastal development proposals that could impact on marine habitats and biodiversity. The Marine Conservation Officer will also work within the Trust’s consultancy to build capacity for marine survey and environmental impact assessment work and to generate income to support continuation of the post.
You: An understanding of current marine conservation policy and thinking, and the marine planning system and current planning policy. Educated to degree level in a relevant subject. Experience of working on Environmental Impact Assessments and UK marine and coastal ecology. Excellent writing skills, good presentational and negotiating skills, a mature and confident approach and the ability to work on your own or as part of a team.
