ISEAL is the global membership association for many of the leading sustainability standards and certification schemes worldwide. We are internationally recognized for our role in driving consensus about credible practices for sustainability standards, reflected in our Credibility Principles and Codes of Good Practice. 

Role summary

 ISEAL is looking for an experienced project manager, with experience in the social side of sustainability as well as measurement and metrics. The Impacts & Innovations Manager will be responsible for an evolving portfolio of projects, designed to measure and increase impacts of sustainability standards and to support standards in using data from their systems to create new value and services for users.  This Manager will also lead collaborative projects on specific sustainability issues, projects which bring together standards and key partners in business, government, and the non-profit sector to find new approaches to addressing critical social and economic sustainability challenges. 

 The portfolio of projects will evolve over time, with some flexibility to build on the specific expertise of the new Impacts & Innovations Manager.  Current examples of projects this Manager could lead and deliver include: supporting innovations around use of data to drive continual improvement at the farm and factory level; the development and implementation of shared metrics for the measurement of sustainability outcomes; guide a working group on improving gender impacts; and leading the participation of the standards’ community in an open community of practice on living income (www.livingincome.org). 

 Responsibilities

Project Development and Implementation

  • Lead implementation of projects:
    • Development of technical content
    • Coordination with colleagues, ISEAL members and external partners
    • Supervision of consultants
    • Facilitation of working groups
    • Event planning and session/webinar delivery
    • Production of reports and communication outputs;
    • Managing project M&E
  • Provide thematic leadership on specific social and economic sustainability issues and projects for example decent work, gender and living income
  • Represent ISEAL in project-related external events
  • Prepare donor reports, support development of new projects

 

Metrics, measurement, and evaluation

  • Lead efforts to develop and align sustainability indicators among ISEAL members and provide leadership in wider team effort to encourage standards to deliver new value for standards’ users through better use of data and metrics
  • Provide technical support to ISEAL projects with measurement and metrics components
  • Serve as staff expert on the ISEAL Impacts Code, providing technical input on compliance reviews and Code revisions
  • Provide technical advice and training to ISEAL members on monitoring and evaluation topics and lead the development of interpretations and guidance
  • Conduct training workshops and provide tailored services to the ISEAL community and external clients on the Impacts Code, monitoring and evaluation, and theory of change

 

Other

  • Contribute to development of programme strategy & workplan
  • Act as role model for ISEAL´s values and foster desired people management culture at ISEAL in own team and beyond
  • Manage performance of direct reports and provide constructive and supportive feedback to aid in the professional development of staff

 

Essential Attributes / Skills /Knowledge

  • Postgraduate degree in any relevant subject or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and training
  • Substantial experience in developing, managing and delivering grant-funded, collaborative projects related to sustainability
  • A strong background in measurement and metrics, through education and experience related to monitoring and evaluation, the development and analysis of sustainability indicators and data, and/or supply chain metrics and measurement 
  • Knowledge and experience with the social aspects of sustainability, including decent work, gender and livelihoods, particularly as they relate to natural resource and primary production sectors (e.g. agriculture, mining and minerals, textiles and garments, forestry, manufacturing, etc) 
  • Strong presenting, facilitating and convening skills and experience in leading collaborative projects and developing partnerships
  • Ability to communicate complex topics in a simple way to a wider more generalist audience, both in writing and through verbal communication
  • Well-organised, with strong process and project management skills and ability to establish priorities and work to deadlines and supervise project consultants and other staff
  • Self-motivated and ability to work independently as well as part of a team

 Additionally desirable

  • Familiarity with or experience of working in or with ISEAL member organisations
  • Knowledge of ISEAL Impacts Code and theory of change a plus.

Other Relevant Information:

Term:                                    

This is intended as a long term position with an initial contract of one year

Salary band:                       

£44,000-50,000 p.a., depending on experience

Working Hours:                 

Based on a full time equivalent of 37.5 hours per week. The ISEAL Alliance operates a Flexible Working Policy and is happy to consider applications for flexible working after the relevant qualification period has passed.

Status:                                  

Exceptional candidates from outside the UK/EEA area, who are not in possession of a valid visa, may be

Location:                             

This position will be based in ISEAL’s London head office.

International Travel:       

The post holder will be required to undertake regular international travel including overnight stays

(approx. 20%)

Annual Leave:                    

25 days per annum (including office closure btw Christmas & New Year)
