Maintenance Manager

 

Overview

 

The Laikipia Nature Conservancy & Gallmann Memorial Foundation are seeking a Maintenance Manager. The position will be field based at the Laikipia Nature Conservancy in West Laikipia. The candidate must be independent and trustworthy, and must be able to lead, and work as part of a team. This person will be dynamic, enthusiastic about conservation, have good communication skills, management / team building experience, good mechanical & technical understanding & be self-reliant.  Critically, the candidate must be able to take initiative, and be an excellent coordinator, and communicator.

 

His role will be to manage the infrastructure and vehicle maintenance of the Laikipia Nature Conservancy Conservancy using resident staff and support teams. He will report to and be supervised and supported by the General manager of the Laikipia Nature Conservancy.

 

OBJECTIVES

  • Good management and control of activities
  • Sound maintenance of all infrastructure, equipment and vehicles.
  • Maintenance & construction of fence, roads, buildings & fire control.
  • Maintenance of tourism facilities
  • Cost control

 

KEY TASKS

  • To develop & supervise a team of competent staff within the Logistics & Operations department for:

 

-       Workshop staff & transport & machinery operators

-       construction & maintenance

-       skilled artisan support including plumbers & electricians

-       Store keeping and procurement regulation and systems

 

  • To supervise the operations of the main workshops to include the regular repair and servicing of all vehicles & machinery.

 

  • Effective maintenance of all solar systems, plumbing, pumps, swimming pools, in tourism, offices and private facilities.

 

  • Construction, Maintenance and Repair of Buildings, Roads and Firebreaks

 

  • To improve the control & efficiency of all vehicles & machinery

 

  • Control of expenditure & the usage of spares & fuel.

 

  • To establish a dynamic stores system & staff to ensure control & accurate accountability

 

  • To supervise the purchasing office ensuring value for money for purchases made.

 

  • To supervise staffing in conjunction with maintenance, repairs, logistics, drivers, storekeeping

 

  • To assist in planning, budget preparation & implementation of all activities.

 

COMPETENCIES

 

  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience and strong logistical, construction and mechanical experience in remote settings.

 

  • Experience in managing and training teams in infrastructure development and planning

 

  • Excellent writing and admin management skills

 

  • Demonstrated ability to manage large teams at multiple field sites

 

  • Excellent written and verbal skills in English and Kiswahili

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid Driver’s license.
  • Proficiency in English required.
  • Demonstrated logistics, scheduling and procurement experience.
  • Computer literate (MS Office)
