Role Profile

ZSL London Zoo’s Discovery and Learning department is looking for three fixed term Seasonal Discovery & Learning Officers to join our team. These posts are from 18th March to 26th July 2019. Part time or term time contracts can be discussed.

The D&LO will join the team at ZSL London Zoo and play a key role in delivering ZSL’s learning strategy.  In doing so, they will help achieve the Society’s mission to raise awareness and inform visitors and other audiences about animals, their habitats and associated conservation issues. The D&LO will achieve this through the delivery of a range of learning programmes and events, for a variety of audiences, the principal ones being schools.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following criteria:

  • Honours degree level (or equivalent experience) in biological/environmental science or social science
  • Experience of teaching in either a formal or informal education setting
  • Experience of working with young people and communicating to a wide range of audiences
  • Experience working in a zoo, aquarium, museum or other animal related environment
  • Ability to carry out and demonstrate to others correct animal handling
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to learning new skills and information within a strict time limit e.g. performance skills, handling different animals, working with different departments in ZSL
  • Available to work some evenings and weekends and Bank Holidays
  • Able to work in an outdoor environment and in all weather conditions
  • Full DBS background check will be carried out
