Description  

The successful candidate will join SNH’s licensing team within Wildlife Operations Unit. The team ensures that SNH delivers our statutory licensing duties under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, Protection of Badgers Act 1992 and the Conservation (Natural Habitats, & c.) Regulations 1994. The main purpose of this post is to process licence applications arising from this legislation; to ensure that licences are issued in compliance with appropriate legislation, policy and guidance and to assess the information accompanying applications and the impacts of proposed actions on protected species.

You must have a good understanding of principles of wildlife management and good knowledge of the ecology of one or more of the following protected species or species groups – bats, birds, otters, badgers, great crested newts, cetaceans, with a basic understanding of protected species legislation and licensing. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work as part of a team and to communicate and build constructive working relations with colleagues and others are a must. You must also have the ability to organise and analyse written and numerical information, and produce a coherent summary, with a good eye for detail and consistency. Finally, you must have the ability to manage and prioritise a high volume of work.
