Description

This is an exciting opportunity for a lawyer to contribute to ClientEarth’s Climate & Forests Programme. In this role, you will address issues relating to forest governance and community rights, particularly in Central Africa. The Climate & Forests Programme is engaged in projects supporting civil society organisations to participate in forest governance processes in this region. The lawyer will have a key role in implementing projects in the Republic of Congo and Gabon.

The ideal candidate will have outstanding legal analytical skills as well as cultural sensitivity and people skills that equip you to identify and work effectively with key stakeholders engaged in forest law reform efforts in Central African countries. You will bring a creative approach to the law and use of legal practice to secure the sustainable use of natural resources and community rights.

The post holder will have the ability to analyse problems rigorously and from all angles, showing sound practical and political judgement. You will be an excellent communicator, fluent in both French and English, able to influence, convince and collaborate at a high level, and to build and support partnerships and networks. You will be adaptable and resilient, able to work independently in diverse settings, and work collaboratively within a team. You will be willing to travel extensively – to Central Africa and elsewhere, as required.

About us

ClientEarth is a public interest environmental law group founded in 2007, and we bring together law, science and policy to create practical solutions to key environmental challenges. You will be joining an organisation of 90-strong staff, including legal experts qualified in more than ten jurisdictions based across offices in London, Brussels, Warsaw, a newly established fund-raising office in New York and with lawyers in Western- and Central- African focus countries. Working in partnership with civil society and policy-makers, we are committed to securing the rights of citizens and civil society to participation, information and justice in environmental matters. Our programmes cover democracy, wildlife, oceans, forests, energy, climate change, business and health.
