Description

Help us put environmental and social sustainability at the heart of investment decisions.

Are you experienced in undertaking environmental and social impact assessments for infrastructure projects? Are you familiar with social and environmental safeguards and standards relating to international financial institutions? Do you have an operational background in both the public and private sectors in Eastern or Central Europe? Then you can help to build a better world with the Council of Europe Development Bank – a multilateral development bank with a strong social mandate.

Established in 1956 and bringing together 41 member countries, the CEB finances and responds to emergency situations and actively enhances the living conditions of the most disadvantaged groups. At the heart of the Environmental and Social Sustainability Unit, you will assess and advise on social and environmental safeguards throughout project lifecycles, giving you real impact on everything we do.

In particular, you will screen and categorise projects, review existing systems and documentation, assist borrowers in preparing frameworks and action plans, and progress grant funding requests to address environmental and social sustainability issues. At the same time, you will assess compliance and best practice in ongoing projects, identify opportunities for climate change mitigation and actively develop new tools and methodologies, giving you considerable variety and constant challenge.

To take on this stimulating role, you will possess:

  • A degree level education with a specialisation in engineering,
    environmental management or environmental sciences
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Proven ability to present confidently and assertively
  • Excellent report-writing and IT skills
  • An innovative and imaginative approach
  • An excellent command of written and spoken English, ideally backed by a working knowledge of French

Applications should be made in English or French using the Council of Europe Development Bank online application system at CEB website before the deadline of 16 February 2020.
