Are you an enthusiastic student or recent graduate looking for an opportunity to build your skills and improve your CV?

CABI is offering a paid internship to work from January to March 2021 (potentially with the option to extend the time frame) in our Invasive Species Team labs in Egham, Surrey.  The successful candidate will have the opportunity to support and gain insight into a number of biological control projects and work with a team of experts in the field using arthropods  and fungal pathogens to control invasive weeds. The Egham centre currently employs 60 staff and is set in pleasant grounds. The work entails support for current biocontrol projects in aspects of field, desk and laboratory work as well as more routine technical work. Laboratory work will include inoculation techniques using fungal pathogens and live plants, as well as maintaining and augmenting insect cultures and supporting experimental work. Desk work could include support for literature reviews and online data gathering. Field work, if required, could entail assistance with monitoring biological control agents in the field at sites local to the CABI institute in Egham, assistance with setting up field trials, field collections of live material (plants, insects, pathogens) as well as releases of biocontrol agents. Technical aspects of the ISM working  include maintenance of the working environment, plants and insects, techniques for disposal of experimental waste and insight into the technical maintenance aspects of the facilities at the CABI Egham site.

We pay the London living wage of £10.50 per hour and are an equal opportunities employer. Please note we will begin reviewing and interviewing suitable candidates and may appoint before the closing date
