WCMC is now recruiting two interns for their Species Programme. The purpose of these internships is to contribute towards global efforts to address overexploitation and combat illegal timber trade, by bringing together biodiversity data and information to inform decision-making, while also gaining related knowledge and practical skills.

If you are looking for a rewarding and challenging internship where you can improve your technical skills and exposure to wildlife trade policy we would like to hear from you.

UNEP-WCMC is a not-for-profit organisation devoted to promoting for public benefit the conservation, protection, enhancement and support of nature and natural resources worldwide. We do this by collecting, storing, processing, analysing, interpreting and sharing data that increase our knowledge and understanding of biodiversity and the conservation of nature. Good data are the foundation of informed decision-making and we work with many partners to help them develop their knowledge and capacity to make good decisions.

The successful candidates will contribute to the curation of key global datasets on species and trade, trade data analysis, and compilation of information on species conservation status and the international timber trade. This work will feed into on-going projects to support the implementation of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), the European Union Timber Regulations and the European Union Wildlife Trade Regulations.

The internships will be hosted within UNEP-WCMC’s Species Programme, which coordinates UNEP-WCMC’s engagement on international wildlife trade and sustainable wildlife management. There is some flexibility in the activities to be carried out under the internships, depending on the interests of the successful candidates.

If you are interested in these exciting internship opportunities please send your CV and a short covering letter to recruitment@unep-wcmc.org by 20th June 2017. Please note, no application form is required for this post.

The internships will commence early July for a minimum of 3 months.

Please note that these are not a UN posts and we can only accept applications from those eligible to work in the UK.
