Description

We have an exciting opportunity for two exceptional individuals to undertake four-month paid internships in both our Forest Investigations and Forest Advocacy and Policy teams.

About Global Witness

We believe that many of the world’s worst environmental and human rights abuses are driven by the exploitation of natural resources and corruption in the global political and economic system.

Our mission is to campaign to end this and we do this by carrying out hard-hitting investigations, exposing the facts, and pushing to change the system.  We are independent, not for profit, and we work with partners around the world in our fight for justice.

About the Internship

The forest campaigns seek to curb the financing of deforestation by investigating environmental abuses and advocating for regulation. We aim to halt the financing of companies responsible for the destruction of the world’s climate critical tropical forests.

We are looking for two internships to work across our forest teams. Working across both teams, one intern will focus on investigations, supporting the case for action by researching companies and deforestation. One intern will work primarily with our policy and advocacy team to help us identify and capitalise on key advocacy and media opportunities.

You’ll receive London Living Wage and will work remotely for the duration of the internship.

You will be expected to work five days per week over a period of four months, it is possible for this to be extended for up to six months. This internship does not guarantee employment with Global Witness after the scheme is completed.

About you

You’ll be passionate about developing a career either in investigative journalism, advocacy, campaigning on human rights or environmental issues. Above all, you’ll have an interest in protecting the forests from deforestation, by tackling the structures that enable it.

You will have excellent research and analytical skills.  A committed team player, you thrive in an environment which values collaboration. Any language skills, such as Portuguese, Spanish or French would also be beneficial.

Finally, you’ll be deeply committed to Global Witness’ aims – and excited about working to make our goals a reality.

You’ll be allocated a manager who’ll regularly review how you’re getting on and provide opportunities to maximise your learning and experience with us.

This role is UK remote-based, therefore to be considered for this role you must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the UK. Currently due to COVID, we are working remotely and have the flexibility to do so until the end of 2021.

Applying

Please send in your application with a CV to recruitmentcampaigns@globalwitness.org with "Forests Intern" in the subject line by Midnight BST on 15 August 2021.

Please add the information below in your covering letter or email, along with your contact information.

  1. Why you’re applying for the scheme and what you hope to get out of your time with us;
