About us

The Soil Association was formed in 1946 to pioneer a better world – one where we can all farm, eat and live healthily in balance with the environment. Today, we’re still dedicated to making positive change happen. We’re farming, growing, buying, cooking and eating. We’re campaigning, lobbying and certifying. We’re running research programmes that pave the case for change. And we’re inspiring millions of people to take their own step towards a sustainable future.

Food for Life (FFL) is an exciting and fast-growing programme that bring schools, nurseries, hospitals and care homes, and their surrounding communities, together around the core ethos of healthy, tasty and sustainable food.

Our programme is about making good food the easy choice for everyone, reconnecting people with where food comes from, enabling citizens to build skills in growing and cooking, and championing the importance of well-sourced and sustainable ingredients.

Our ‘whole setting approach’ means we look beyond the food on plates to help build knowledge and skills to embed and maintain a positive food culture. Food for Life engages whole communities to create a powerful voice for long-term change.

Food for Life is a Soil Association programme – find out more about who we are on our Food for Life website.
