APEM Limited is Europe’s largest specialist aquatic science consultancy, offering our clients an integrated approach to every aspect of the scientific study, investigation and management of both freshwater and marine habitats. The Remote Sensing / Ornithology Divisions are an expanding part of the business, with three APEM-owned survey aircraft and a selection of state of the art remote sensing equipment. This is an excellent opportunity for a high-calibre and motivated scientists to join our growing team for an initial period of 3 months. We are looking for motivated individuals to join the ornithology team to work as bird and marine mammal image analysts and to help with other tasks.

Based at APEM’s Stockport Headquarters you will be expected to assist in image processing, data handling, image analysis and project work as required. Many of the images that you will have to interpret are of birds and marine mammals in the marine environment. An interest in wildlife, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to identify Britain’s common birds and / or marine mammals would be highly advantageous.

Successful applicants should preferably have a degree in biology / environmental science / remote sensing or relevant experience in bird identification or other ornithology or marine mammal related work. You will be self-motivated, enthusiastic and able to work to tight deadlines. You will be an active team player.  Understanding of MS Office packages such as Excel is essential, and some experience of GIS software packages is preferable but not essential as full training will be provided. You must be able to record data carefully and systematically, and write clearly. Flexibility and adaptability are key requirements in this role.

For the right candidate there may be opportunities for progression within the role itself as well as progression into other areas of APEM’s business.
