Position

Thomson are looking for an HSQE Manager to implement and maintain the Thomson HSQE Management System to ensure a safe working environment, successful re-certifications and compliance with all Health, Safety and Environmental legislation. The successful candidate will be an HSQE expert with proven practical experience of working in health and safety; and someone who is proficient in providing accurate, clear health and safety advice to remote site teams, underpinned by legal knowledge.

Reporting to the Business Operations Manager, the HSQE Manager will work closely with employees on all levels and across all areas of the business. Although based in our head office in Guildford, you will need to provide support to all of our offices which will involve travelling to them on occasion. You’ll also be required to travel to sites to conduct site inspections and incident investigations, nationally.

Thomson has a range of accreditations covering HSQE, which the postholder will be directly involved in managing. Some of these include: ISO9001, ISO14001, RISQS and CHAS.

You will be responsible for keeping up to date with HSQE legislation and ensuring that Thomson remains compliant.  You will need to be personable, approachable and able to engage with our employees, clients and subcontractors to ensure they fulfil their HSQE responsibilities.  Taking the lead on internal and external audits, you will have a high level of attention to detail and will maintain our HSQE Management System, updating and writing new policies and procedures. 

Requirements

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Hold a NEBOSH diploma and CMIOSH
  • Have a positive ‘can do’ attitude and be an ambassador to our company and its core values of Respect, Integrity, Support and Excellence
  • Be a comfortable and confident communicator (written and oral) with an ability to communicate to colleagues, clients and any authorities such as the HSE and the Environment Agency if required
  • Be influential, supportive and reassuring across all levels of our organisation while giving confident and accurate HSQE advice and support
  • Have the willingness and ability to take ownership of the HSQE function and ensuring that all areas of the business have the full HSQE support they require
  • Be pragmatic, self-motivated and organised
  • Comfortable in a fast paced and changing environment where adaptability is key
  • Have a full UK driving licence and the right to work in the UK
  • Be computer literate

Other information

This is a full-time, permanent position, based from our Head Office in Guildford, with an office/home-working split based on business needs. Flexibility with working hours or work pattern will be considered for the right candidate.
