Description

CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project) is seeking a seasoned, entrepreneurial manager to grow CDP’s cities programs in 2016 on a fixed term contract. Since 2010, CDP has run the world’s premier platform for city governments to report their climate change progress. Over 300 city governments—including most of the world’s largest cities—use CDP’s platform annually, as well as many state and regional governments.

The Head of CDP's cities programme leads CDP’s work with cities and state and regional governments. The role holds overall responsibility for the development, strategy and operation of the CDP’s cities program, as well as helping to grow our nascent and quickly expanding work with states and regions. The position includes management responsibilities, with seven direct reports and an overall team of ten. The successful candidate will be a strong self-starter with capacity to lead a high-profile initiative, fundraise, manage a diverse staff, develop high-level partnerships and grow the program globally.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the cities program and CDP's work with state and regional governments.
  • Meet and exceed revenue targets through fundraising, sponsorship, and product provision.
  • Manage relationships with key philanthropic donors and corporate partners.
  • Deliver against milestones and KPIs as set out in agreements with philanthropic donors and corporate partners
  • Drive program expansion, including developing new sources of revenue, increasing the number of reporting cities and states, and pioneering new ways to provide value to city governments.
  • Manage the large and complex budget.
  • Lead and inspire a talented, diverse global team of ten staff.
  • Increase the visibility of CDP's work with cities and states through presentations, public speaking engagements, and thought leadership.
  • Represent CDP globally at high-level events, including speaking frequently in front of large groups.
  • Support CDP's overall mission by working with colleagues from across the organization and global offices.

Required skills and experience:

  • A minimum of 6 years experience managing programs in the corporate, government, or non-governmental sphere.
  • Passion for helping to make the world's cities, states, and regions more sustainable and resilient.
  • Knowledge of climate change and issues facing urban areas, state and regional governments, and corporations
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills.
  • Experience of managing philanthropic donors, $100k + accounts, budgets, projects and multiple priorities.
  • Strong diplomatic skills and experience managing multiple relationships with partner organizations.
  • Strong ability to quickly grasp and master new IT systems including CRM and database solutions
  • Understanding of data analysis and research best practices, including experience working with advanced analytics or business intelligence solutions, especially for publication.
  • Excellent customer service skills and attitude
  • Experience connecting internationally and across cultures
  • Passion for working in – and building – an entrepreneurial team

This role is a fixed term contract for 13 months. We are looking for the successful candidate to begin work on or around 1 December 2015.

If you are interested in applying for this position, please send your CV and a cover letter outlining your suitability for the role.
