Description

As Grid Manager you will have primary commercial responsibility on grid matters across the full portfolio of Coillte’s renewable energy projects (onshore wind, solar, battery). You will also ensure the development, delivery and operations of optimum grid connection solutions in accordance with programme delivery, budget requirements, regulatory standards and best practice.

Role Specific Terms

This is a permanent role based in Newtownmountkennedy, Co. Wicklow.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all grid related matters in respect of Coillte’s extensive portfolio of renewable energy projects including;
    • Work with multi-disciplinary teams to support all grid related delivery and commercialisation requirements (including project financing and related modelling support)
    • supporting project leads as required to meet project development demands
  • Develop and maintain project grid connection feasibility strategies, budgets and programmes, including procurement and construction strategies:
    • Provide input to Coillte’s long-term strategic planning process and complete grid feasibility studies for new ventures
    • Develop conceptual electrical layouts for renewable energy projects and ancillary grid connection works
    • Create strategies for contestable works where appropriate including coordination of contestability agreements
    • Ensure delivery of Coillte’s interests in joint ventures and across grid connection subgroups
  • Manage and scope the outsourcing of technical studies such as curtailment and grid code compliance
  • Oversee renewable energy facility construction, commissioning and grid code compliance process in conjunction with the network operator and project consultants, including the management of:
    • Specifications, tender and management of construction contracts
    • All relationships with system operators from initial application through construction to final commissioning and testing
  • Take a lead role in grid connection policy on behalf of Coillte renewable energy including developing responses to industry consultations:
    • Attend industry forums and workshops on grid related issues
    • Represent Coillte on IWEA Grid Committee

Professional/Technical Competencies

  • Minimum third level qualification in Electrical Engineering to HETAC Level 8 or equivalent
  • Expert Knowledge of Power Systems design
  • Good experience in large scale infrastructure project delivery environment, ideally in onshore wind and battery sectors
  • Experience in interfacing with Transmission System Operator/Distribution System Operator (TSO/DSO) and negotiating on both technical and contractual issues
  • Strong Track record in end-to-end delivery of grid connection project components from design through to commissioning and compliance/operations
  • Good Understanding of Policy development in the area of power systems regulation and design (including Ancillary Services), and ability to interface with key Stakeholders
