Description |

Looking to apply your GIS skills to the real-world challenges of forestry and land management? Want the flexibility of part-time, remote work while contributing to meaningful environmental projects?
At Forest Surveys, we are one of the UK’s leading forest inventory and surveying companies. With decades of experience, we combine field-based data collection with cutting-edge mapping technologies to deliver detailed, accurate woodland metrics. Our work supports a wide range of clients and woodland types, from commercial plantations to ecologically sensitive sites.
We’re proud of our flexible working environment and supportive team culture. As a GIS Technician, you’ll play a central role in managing spatial data, supporting survey projects, and helping us visualise complex forestry information. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who wants to grow in a dynamic and purposeful role while enjoying the benefits of part-time working.
Job Description
We are looking for a permanent part-time GIS Technician to join our team (minimum 16 hours per week). Working closely with our survey and administration teams, you will provide dedicated GIS and IT support across the business. Your work will include data processing, map production, spatial analysis, and contributing to ongoing development of our GIS systems and processes.
Key Work Areas
- Provide GIS support across all projects, managing and processing spatial data to high standards.
- Produce maps, charts, reports, and spatial visualisations for both internal use and client reporting.
- Assist with the development and delivery of GIS solutions across the business.
- Offer general IT support to the wider team as needed.
- Participate in field-based surveys to support forestry operations.
- Undertake project-specific GIS work as directed by the Management team.
- Support continuous improvement of geospatial workflows.
- Training will be provided on company systems and ongoing development is encouraged.

- Confident communicator in both verbal and written formats.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently when required.
- Problem-solving mindset with a patient and adaptable approach.
- Geospatial, environmental, or land-based degree – or equivalent experience in a geospatial role.
- Full UK Driving License.
Desirable Criteria
- Programming experience (e.g. Python, SQL).
- Experience with remote sensing or GIS automation workflows.
- Salary and Benefits
- Salary starting from £28,500 per annum (pro rata), dependent on experience.
- Permanent part-time position (minimum 16 hours per week).
- Remote working with flexible hours.
- Training and development opportunities tailored to your interests and role progression.
