Description

Natural England are seeking freshwater specialists with experience of working with the water sector (e.g. water companies and Environment Agency), planning authorities and the farming sector to help reduce catchment pressures on chalk rivers and estuaries in Dorset and Hampshire.

As a Freshwater Lead Adviser, your role will be varied and involve working across the three counties advising internal staff and external bodies on freshwater and estuarine issues connected with the water environment. A major part is likely to focus on the local authority areas close to the Solent, from the fringe of the New Forest to the Hampshire boundary and including the Isle of Wight, and engaging people in delivering catchment solutions to water pressures from learning across the Team Area and beyond.

The successful candidate will have knowledge of lowland rivers (particularly chalk rivers), and estuaries, including their ecology and catchment processes. They should also have knowledge of innovation in catchment management techniques to protect water quality. Knowledge and the ability to interpret the Water Framework Directive and Habitats Directive, and some experience of consultation advice on water and development plans, and planning applications would be an advantage.
