Description

Compassion in World Farming is the leading international farm animal welfare charity, campaigning to improve the lives of millions of farm animals through advocacy, lobbying for legislative change, and positive engagement with the global food industry. The goal of our established Food Business team is to place farm animal welfare at the heart of the food industry, and in doing so we are recognised as the credible partner on animal welfare to the major food retailers, food service companies and manufacturers.

We are looking for a proven project leader and relationship manager. You will be responsible for developing existing partnerships and establishing new ones with food companies in Europe (and sometimes further afield), in order to deliver higher farm animal welfare standards and food choices within the food sector. You will specifically engage companies in key Compassion initiatives including The Good Farm Animal Welfare Awards, the Supermarket Survey and a range of project work that make up the Food Business Programme. This post is particularly focussed on the EU’s top retailers.

Passionate about humane, sustainable food you’ll need to be an excellent communicator. You will also need to be approachable, adaptable and have a positive disposition that inspires confidence, and well as being a driven self-starter, who can work on your own as well as in a team. This role requires you to be realistic but ambitious about what is achievable with companies.

A strong understanding of the commercial sector is essential, and a track record of working with or for food businesses, particularly with a focus on sustainability or corporate responsibility issues, is highly desirable. Knowledge of the technicalities of measuring and managing animal welfare is also a distinct advantage.

This is a vital role within Compassion, helping to ensure farm animal welfare is adopted as part of a sustainable supply chain and incorporated in the policies of the world’s leading food businesses in a meaningful way. The role offers a fantastic opportunity to make a tangible impact for farm animal welfare within a dynamic team and influential organisation.

Compassion in World Farming is located in bright, modern offices; just 2 minute's walk from Godalming mainline station (45 minutes from London Waterloo).
