Description

location : Living Planet Centre Woking

If you are passionate about the environment and restoring nature this is an incredible opportunity as Food and Landscapes Policy Officer to make a difference as part of the world’s leading independent conservation organisation. Active in more than one hundred countries, we are focussed on safeguarding the natural world and creating solutions to the most serious environmental issues facing our planet, so that people and nature thrive.

As Food and Landscapes Policy Officer we want you to assist our advocacy work with policymakers, business and consumers, to help restore nature in the UK and reduce the impact of the UK’s global footprint overseas. In particular you will support our work with the UK Government, companies and other stakeholders on sustainable sourcing, with a focus on the production and trade of commodities linked to deforestation, land conversion and forest degradation, as well as on regenerative agricultural practices. You will help build our understanding of the key drivers of nature destruction and how it impacts environmental, social and economic stability. You will be involved in the production of new reports and policy briefings, undertaking policy research and pulling together information to support our engagement. You will also manage internal and external enquiries on relevant topics. Whether helping develop aspects of landscape strategies or creating content for use in campaigns and other communications you will be at the heart of the action.

You must have a relevant degree and/or work experience on protection of forests globally, achieving sustainable landscapes, deforestation/conversion-free supply chains and/or restoring UK nature. You will also possess up-to-date knowledge of public and private sector policies on UK Nature, forests, sustainable agriculture (including for commodities), landscape management and climate change – including the factors that govern and influence them. You will have proven knowledge of certification schemes for commodities driving deforestation and forest degradation (e.g. beef, palm oil, soy, timber)

Effective at managing projects, you will be used to engaging with internal and external stakeholders and will have excellent communication and relationship building skills. Capable of handling, analysing, and synthesising data you will be comfortable absorbing complex information and translating it into impactful policy advice and communications.
