SAI Global Assurances, one of the world’s leading certification bodies is seeking to recruit a Fishery Assessment Officer.

SAI Global, a multinational, publically listed certification company, originating from Australia has recently acquired Global Trust Certification and plans to build on the ethos and technical success that has been established across major fishery production regions. Current assessments and projects are in place across USA, Canada, Europe, Asia and Australia/New Zealand. SAI Global has over 60 operating offices throughout the world and can now service the certification needs of fisheries in all regions.

We wish to hear from experienced dynamic, highly motivated, intellectually inquisitive individuals with masters or PhD training and 3-5 years experience in fisheries sciences and consolidated expertise in stock survey and assessment practices, fisheries management/operations and/or ecosystem effects of fisheries.

Reporting to the Seafood Technical Manager, this is an exciting opportunity to join an established team of fishery professionals as part of our marine services division.

SAI Global has a commitment to the seafood sector and global seafood sustainability. The position is located in the marine services office, Dundalk, Ireland and offers the successful candidate the potential for career development as expected by a multi-national organization of this scale.

The job specification and responsibilities include: 

    • Assessment of fisheries to International and National Standards and Certification Programs. 
    • Research, analysis and assimilation of scientific and technical fisheries information from agency, peer reviewed and other sources, drafting of commercial fisheries assessment reports. 
    • Interaction, dialogue and leading fishery teams as necessary to assess applicant fisheries. 
    • International travel (flexible) to carry out site visits as part of the fisheries assessment process. 
    • Evaluation of fisheries against pre-assessment/validation requirements.

Personal attributes: 

  • Ability to travel, as necessary, worldwide;
  • Languages: fluent in English; Spanish, French or other languages desirable.
  • Energetic, accurate and with a positive attitude to working in the field of international commercial fisheries.
  • Enthusiastic and self-motivated;
