Description

Can you develop and oversee policies and procedures ensuring they are adhered to? Are you familiar with the field of fisheries science and management?  The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) is looking for a Fisheries Assessment Manager (FAM) to be based at our London head office, and to report to the Senior Fisheries Assessment Manager.

As one of a few FAMs, you will oversee a portfolio of fisheries that are under third party assessment by external Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs).  You will also have organizational responsibility for developing and implementing key elements of the MSCs Fisheries Standard and/or assessment processes.

Who are you?

  • Degree education, you will have a postgraduate degree, or equivalent experience, in marine ecology, fisheries science and/or management or another related subject;
  • You’ll have knowledge or experience of third party certification schemes, including the MSC program;
  • Versatile, quick-learner with a strong knowledge base in fishery management systems.
  • Experience working with stakeholders and other external parties, preferably in fisheries management, science or fisheries policy development settings on a range of fisheries and resource sustainability issues.
  • Well-developed analytical and systematic problem-solving skills, demonstrating sound reasoning abilities and logical decision-making.

Who are we?

The MSC is a UK charity and international non-profit, with a mission to safeguard our oceans and seafood supplies.  You will have seen our blue ecolabel in the fish aisle of all the major supermarkets.  By promoting sustainable seafood sourcing, we’re helping to improve long-term food security, maintain and strengthen livelihoods, and ensure healthy oceans for generations to come.

Our certification and labelling programme allows fishers, chippies, supermarkets and shoppers to demonstrate their commitments to sustainable seafood.
