Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Fisheries Analyst to join our Fisheries Management team and to play a central role in the sustainable management of the UK's fisheries.

The role of Fisheries Analyst will give you the opportunity to work on some of the knotty issues relating to the UK’s most economically important shellfish and finfish fisheries, and to work in partnership with the seafood industry, government, and research community.

As our Fisheries Analyst you will:

  • Work alongside the Chairs of Seafish-facilitated fisheries co-management groups, the Shellfish Industry Advisory Group (SIAG) and Finfish Industry Advisory Group (FIAG) and their associated sub-groups to help deliver work on agreed priority issues facing the seafood sector.
  • Work closely with a wide range of stakeholders to understand key issues facing the seafood sector and develop a work programme to ensure that issues are addressed.
  • Play a central role in the development of Fisheries Management Plans for key commercial species in the UK – including brown crab, lobster, and whelks – to support long-term sustainability of key fish and shellfish stocks.
  • Develop creative ways of communicating complex scientific and legislative information to ensure that stakeholders are well informed and able to engage effectively in co-management activities.
  • Actively bring together stakeholders from across the seafood supply chain, regulators, and scientific researchers to work collaboratively to deliver meaningful changes to future fisheries management in the UK.
  • Ensure that the Fisheries Management Team continues to help the industry seize opportunities and address challenges.

We are looking for someone with:

  • A relevant degree in a related discipline such as marine science or fisheries management.
  • At least one years’ experience working in a fisheries management, marine science or policy role.
  • Experience of distilling complex information to produce user-friendly and non-technical resources.
  • Excellent organisational and project management skills with a proven ability to manage own workload.
  • Excellent communications skills and ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders and colleagues to work collaboratively and deliver on shared objectives.

This is a full-time, permanent role and can be home-based, or in either of our Edinburgh or Grimsby offices.
