Background
Our vision is for Birmingham and the Black Country to be a Living Landscape alive with nature and rich in wildlife that is valued, enjoyed and protected by everyone. To support achievement of this vision the Trust is developing our Resources department, increasing our capacity to deliver an effective, efficient finance function.


Purpose of post 
The post holder works within the Resources Department; providing key operational support in the financial development of the organisation with particular responsibility for processing day to day accounting transactions, credit control, invoices and payments and compliance with financial systems. The post holder is responsible for the preparation of accurate data for financial reports for management and Trust Council, and will support the production of end of year figures ready for audit.


Key Responsibilities
The post holder will deliver key financial procedures including:
• Processing of accounting transactions into the accounting system (Sage 50)
• Processing supplier invoices & payments
• Maintaining purchase order system
• Raising sales invoices
• Credit control
• Bank reconciliation and monitoring
• Processing and allocating expenses claims
• Operating and improving financial processes and controls, reviewing compliance across the organisation and creating efficiencies
• Preparing the payroll for all staff including PAYE, NIC and pension contributions
• Preparation, reconciliation and submission of VAT returns.
• Supporting the preparation of monthly management accounts, cash flow, quarterly reports to trustees and other reports as required
• End of Year: ensuring all transactions are accurately entered in time for end of year processes.
• Budgets: working with the management team support the preparation of annual budgets and quarterly forecasts.
The post holder will support the management team providing:
• Preparing budgets to be included in funding applications

Other duties
• Attend such meetings and Trust committees as may be required.
• Undertake other duties as requested by your line manager that contribute to Trust strategy.

Budget Responsibility and decision making
No direct budget responsibilities, but support budget decisions by assisting managers with preparation of budgets and forecasts.


Supervision of employees 
No supervision or direct reports immediately, potential for business apprentice and/or volunteers to be taken on to support delivery of this function. This post regularly involves dealing with confidential staff and company information and discretion is very important.


Contact with others 
As a small organisation all members of staff are required to answer the phone and the door to members of the public requiring a good standard of customer service. The post holder provides a crucial internal service and the role involves regular contact with staff at all levels and funding organisations and suppliers.
